On A Snowy Day…

I find myself confined to the warmth of my Barge here on the river, so I started looking through eBay at the classic bikes for sale, and came across this…

 “1948 Velocette mac road racer it is up and running and on the road last year original reg with current v5c oily rag original condition mechanically perfect. It has air over oil Dowty forks that hold air fine and work well with double damping 4 speed gear box twin leading shoe front break rear set foot rests and is very fast and reliable. The engine is very special all alloy top end with hairpin valve springs lightend and polished valve gear ported cylinder head TT carb BTH mag special crank conrod/big end and rev counter would be a great sprint or track bike well sorted it is geared up and also has 500 cc chain pitch and sprockets as it will break 350cc pitch chain alloy wheel rims 20” front wheel and 19” rear fitted and in as new condition Avon speed master tyre on the front Dunlop TT 100 tyre on the rear”.

EGP Kempton Jumble…

Saturday was another of the regular Kempton Motorcycle Jumble’s, run By Eric and his EGP team. These are great jumbles (swap meets for those in the US) very well organised and run by Eric and his team. And as usual for the classic motorcycle enthusiast, there was plenty to see and buy, for those of such a mind.

More Norton’ing…

Another big part of the puzzle fell into place today, in the shape of an ES2 500 iron barrel, it has had a repair or two in its life, as you would expect, it is also on the top end of the bore size at 82.3, but I am looking for a late 40’s AJS piston to fit in there, but if I fail in that direction I shall have a look at getting a liner fitted, and taking it back to standard (79mm) bore size.

Way back in the mists of time, I bought an oil tank with a big hole in it, this one to be exact…

Well said hole is now a non hole, and today it also had a nice shiney new filler cap fitted, so next stop will be the body shop for some filler and paint…

Up on the Bench… AJS-7R

I called round to see a couple of friends today, and one of them had his AJS on the bench, sweet bike, very stylish.

Sometimes it can be a struggle!

My Z1b is fighting me all the way, you would think it would be happy to be out of the confines of the iron box it had been in for so long, but it seems not. The winter has been fairly mild to be fair, but it has paid a price on my Kawasaki, I pulled it from the garage ready for the spring, and it would only run on two cylinders. So I dragged it to my local bike shop, where they let me throw it on a bench to find what was wrong. I started by pulling the carbs, and checked the jets, and blew air through it all. all seemed good in that area, but it still wouldn’t run, so we checked the coils,  one of those seemed off, so I fitted a new pair. Now it started blowing the main fuse.

So out with the meter, and it was found that one of the new coils was shot, totally. Bugger. So I ordered a new set, and as they arrived the next day, I fitted those, but still it would not run correctly, so off with the timing cover, to find a firework display coming from the points, so now a condenser has gone down too, again I have them ordered, we shall see where it goes next.

All I ever wanted to do was ride the thing!
